For a long time the Lucas SSB “Big Red” battery isolation switch set the standard for safety switches in heavy duty automotive applications, so much so that since its demise years ago many copies of the Big Red have sprung up in its place.
While the AST T-switch has provided much great functionality, performance and reliability in battery isolation switches for three years, there was a need for a simpler drop-in replacement for the Lucas SSB switch, and so Baxters have collaborated to release the TSW100 and TSW102 T-switch kits as cost-effective and simple replacements for the Lucas SSB.
While the new switches do not have all the functionality of the original T-switch, they come complete with a loom and fitting instructions to ensure a simple changeover from the Lucas Big Red. The mounting footprint remains identical so the original bolt holes can be used.
Although priced at around the same cost as the Lucas Big Red the new T-switch is substantially better engineered, higher performing and more reliable.
It was engineered and is made in Germany, whereas many of the Big Red copies are manufactured in China.
